BACK TO OVERVIEW

While all our horses are trained in the classic English riding style (a few also adapt to Western style aids), we predominately use Leon Liversage trail saddles as these are best suited for horses on our longer rides under the African sun. For riding lessons, English saddles (e.g. Wintec, Stübben, Passier, Kiefer, Santa Cruz) are available.

The speed and difficulty level of our rides are adjusted to match the group's riding skill.

Your safety and that of the horses are our top priority. Riders who are confident at cross-country riding are able to enjoy both half and full-day rides in the bush savannah.

Riders with less experience are also well catered for. We'll adapt to meet your abilities whether you're lungeing, riding in the training ring or undertaking short excursions into the bush.

Our horses are sure-footed, reliable and entirely at home among Namibia's diverse flora and fauna. They're also very hardy and are perfectly adapted to the country's extreme temperature fluctuations. All of our horses are between 140 and 174 cm tall, and we place great importance on their health and training. Our pro-horse attitude includes the provision of performance-directed feeds, regular veterinary care, careful shoeing and regular exercise with experienced trainers.

All of our horses are level headed, relaxed and pleasant to ride as a result of our professional dressage and lungeing work. We'll strive to match you with your perfect horse from the very start, and this horse will remain 'yours' for the duration of your stay.

The horses at KAMBAKU, like most in Southern Africa, are generally small and compact or, if larger, of a more slender build. To avoid overstraining their health on the hard, uneven savanna terrain, we have a maximum rider weight limit of 95 kg.

Bring along comfortable breeches that aren't too thick as well as riding boots or chaps with sturdy shoes. We recommend warm clothing and gloves for the cool mornings and evenings during the winter months (May to September), and sunglasses, sunscreen and lip protection throughout the year. Riding helmets are available in various sizes at Kambaku, and these need to be worn for insurance purposes. Protective vests are also available, and these are particularly recommended for child riders.

You will ride through thornbush thicket, so it might be a good idea to wear old clothes. An eventual inattentiveness may cause scratches or even holes in your equipment.

We avoid large riding groups so that safety risks are minimised and you're able to experience Namibia's wildlife up close and in a pleasant and personal atmosphere. Our guides take out a maximum of six riders at a time, with pace, duration and difficulty always being altered to match the group.

Please remember that rainy days may change our riding plans. The summer heat also means that bush riding can only take place at dawn and sunset for the duration of these months.

There's no problem with children joining the half and full-day rides - providing they have sufficient riding skills, are very secure in the saddle and are physically capable of riding without assistance.

All horse riding is unfortunately unavailable to children under four-years of age.

Yes, we have a special programme for children aged 4 to 12 years. We aim to introduce the horses to the children in a fun and happy way, thereby freeing-up the adults to take part in the various activities Kambaku has to offer.
