FAQ Hunting at KAMBAKU
If you have not hunted in Africa yet, you will have a lot of questions:. For example, is hunting allowed all year in Namiba, what about other restrictions and regulations, what caliber do I need and many more. The Kambaku team would be pleased if you could budget at least 6 days for your hunt. This gives you enough time to familiarize yourself with the flora and fauna and to get maximum enjoyment from your hunt.
Please understand, that the minimum stay for a hunin safari at or organized by KAMBAKU would be three days.
Yes, you are allowed to bring your own weapon and 100 rounds of ammunition for its calibre to Namibia. However, handguns and semi-automatic weapons are excluded. Please keep in mind that African game is tougher and stronger than European game. Bring along at least a calibre 30/06, better still an 8 x 68 caliber.
If you would like to hunt an Eland, please note that these 1000 kg antelopes demand calibers from 9,3 x 64 or 375 H&H.
If you do not have a suitable weapon yourself or if you want to save on transport, you are welcome to use one of ours. We charge € 25 per day including ammunition.
A professional hunter or hunting guide with a tracker will accompany you. Let them know which type of hunt you prefer. Usually, the game is stalked. Hunting from a high seat is also an exciting possibility which we will gladly arrange for you.
All-wheel drive vehicles suitable for the bush savannah are available at all times.
We recommend that beginners hone their skills by doing target practice, particularly standing and shooting. If you have the opportunity to practice with and without a tripod, it would be an advantage. Please keep in mind that in the bush savannah you seldom have to shoot far, but often fast. Also practice quick shots in a row - it will help you in an extreme situation!
In addition to training, you may enjoy reading books about Namibia's wilderness. There are many very good books about Namibian wildlife that you can buy at bookstores or via www.amazon.com.

No, you will not need a hunting licence from your own country for your hunt in Namibia. All that is required is a hunting permit from the Namibian Ministry of the Environment, which we can obtain for you. However, our professional hunters would prefer if you could share information about your hunting experience. It is best to have some background as a hunting companion or sport shooter.
If you have little experience we will gradually familiarize you with the hunt. You will learn to handle hunting weapons and shoot safely, moving through bush and accosting wild life. It is worthwhile remembering that one needs at least one week (6 hunting days) before one can truly hunt and be entrusted to do so safely.
EU pressure has resulted in the adoption of a new law in 2002 on the import of foreign hunting trophies. The Namibian Nature Conservation Board has authorised a number of taxidermists and transport companies to prepare trophies for shipping abroad. Self-shipping of your trophies immediately after the hunt is possible, however, no complete export papers will be provided (i.e. no exemption from VAT) and legal imports into the European Union are not possible.
After the hunt our team will clean, salt and dry your trophies. Discuss with your professional hunter how you want them managed. For example, you can deliver the raw trophies to your home as part of our flat-rate freight and have the further preparation carried out in your home country. Alternatively, you can have the full preparation done in Namibia and have them sent through one of our partners.
On the last day of your stay you will discuss further processing of your trophies with your professional hunter. The procedure to follow from now on will be based on the order signed by you for the taxidermist. It is up to you to decide whether your trophies are to be dipped (chemically sterilised) only, bleached or mounted on a board. You can also choose to have a shoulder mount or a full mount prepared in Namibia.
If you entrust your trophies to a taxidermist in Namibia it takes between three and twelve months, depending on the preparation you want, before your mementoes reach you. As part of our flat-rate freight, it may take up to a year for raw trophies, as we do collective shipping for numerous customers.

As the transport and processing rates for animal products are quite confusing and difficult to calculate, we have developed a flat rate for the transport of your trophies. This is a particularly favourable offer for those hunters who wish to take home one or two trophies.
The flat-rate is calculated by Kambaku staff when you leave and covers the entire process up to the delivery of the trophy to an address in the EU. The charge is determined by the full trophy or the desired parts thereof. Please note that only raw trophies (meaning salted, dried and cleaned skins, skulls and horns) are included in the flat-rate freight, as well as chemical treatment, packaging, air freight, clearance in Frankfurt, VAT, customs plus the couriers to your home address in the EU.
This offer is aimed only at the dispatch of raw trophies, which includes skulls, horns, and salted hides. Hides from zebras must be ordered at a taxidermist. Should a Namibian taxidermist prepare mounts for you, their contract carrier takes over the transport and clearance.
Please take note that we send trophies once or twice a year in a consolidated shipment. Hence it will take a bit longer for your precious memories to come home.
